Spinning with a distaff

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Description: Challenge yourself and learn to spin the Medieval way. You will learn how to use a Medieval or Bulgarian style spindle for in hand or short suspended spinning. You will use a wooden distaff that tucks in your belt to hold your wool. This style of spinning is efficient and convenient for spinning while walking at the mall or while out tending your flock of sheep.

A good workshop for Medieval or Viking reenactors who want to be authentic.

Prerequisite: Basic Spinning ability on spindle or wheel. Intro to Spinning Part 1

Students should bring: Clothing with a waistband or belt to tuck your distaff in. Fibre if you want to spin your own.

Materials fee: $10 for a drum carded wool batt, or bring your own smooth carded batt, roving or combed top. Distaffs and spindles will be available for purchase at the end of the class.
