This workshop is VIRTUAL.  It will be taught using the Zoom Platform.  Students will need an appropriate device to access the Zoom meetings.

 

Description: Nålbinding is an ancient technique for making fabric. This Scandinavian version uses a needle to loop yarn into itself, creating a dense, warm fabric. Used in the medieval era for hats, mittens, and socks, nålbinding today has discovered a resurgence. This introductory course is split into six days:

  • Day 1 you will learn the history and context of nålbinding and learn how to start and how to splice yarn.
  • Day 2 you will learn how to join to a second row and how to increase and decrease.
  • Day 3 you will learn how to start and end a piece and how to tackle the tricky round start.
  • Day 4 is how to pivot, and how to start a hat.
  • Day 5 will be other basic stitch types, splicing techniques, and tension.
  • Day 6 is introduction to Hansen’s notations, and how to start mittens, socks and other projects.

Prerequisite: None

Students will need: TBD however, students will need to source all needed supplies – e.g. yarn, needle, scissors, stitch markers

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations less than 8 weeks before the workshop will be subject to a 25% cancellation fee. Cancellations less than 2 weeks before start date will not be refunded. If you must cancel please email the Workshops Registrar at workshops@ovwsg.com.
