We are so pleased to partner with the Lakeshore Weaver’s Guild in Montreal to bring in weaving instructor Dianne Totten to teach us about the magic of crimp cloth. Dianne has been a weaver for 30 years and a teacher of weaving for 20. Dianne will also be presenting the program at the May meeting.
Member tickets go on sale Tuesday March 21 at 6:00pm. Non-member tickets go on sale Tuesday April 4, 2023 at 9:00am.
Description: Experience the magic of crimp cloth! Any fibre can be used for crimp cloth when Orlon or polyester is used in the weft for weft crimp, or in the warp for warp crimp. Learn the technique/thought process through sampling in class. See why crimp cloth is a great stash-buster. Go home with your head filled with ideas to make easy-to-sew garments that flatter any figure. Only 6 seams and you have a vest. Shawls and scarves won’t fall off your shoulders and can be expanded to cover chilly arms when needed. If you can warp a loom and read a draft you can learn to weave crimp.
Prerequisite: Able to independently warp a loom and read a weaving draft.
Students should bring:
- Pre-warped 4-shaft or more floor or table loom.
- Yarn:
- Thermoplastic yarn such as polyester or Orlon (acrylic) for either the warp or the weft.
- Any fibre – a stash buster!
Preparation instructions will be provided prior to the workshop, resources for synthetic yarn are included with the preparation information as well as a supply list of weaving tools typically needed for a workshop.
Students will be able to borrow a guild table loom for this workshop on a first come, first serve basis. There will be no charge, but as the loom must be warped at home a deposit cheque will be required. Students who wish to borrow a guild loom must inform the Registrar and make arrangements with the weaving rental coordinator to meet to complete the necessary paperwork and pick up the loom. Non-members may borrow a loom but must return it at the end of the workshop. Members may have up to 1 week to finish up any remaining warp on the loom.
Materials fee: included
NOTE: Guild members are being provided a two-week window in which to register before the workshop opens to non-members on April 4, 2023. If you are not a member of the OVWSG and register with a member ticket your registration will be cancelled.
