Description: Have you ever wanted to weave a tweed? It all begins with the design.
The class will begin with a short presentation about the history of tweed, the different types and patterns, how a tweed is different from a tartan and how tweed designs intersect with colour-and-weave.
Then using a photograph or postcard of your favourite landscape for inspiration, you will begin designing your tweed by making a series of wrappings (aka reelings). Based on one or more of your wrappings, you will complete a full-colour weaving draft of your tweed design for your final project.
Prerequisite: Weaving 1 4-shaft weaving class, knowledge of reading and writing weaving drafts would be helpful but not essential and should not discourage students from signing up
Students should bring: a photo or postcard of their favourite landscape to use as the inspiration for their tweed.
Students should also bring a notebook, pencil, eraser, ruler, colour pencils, sharpener, a full roll of scotch tape, scissors and several sheets of large scale graph paper. Please note: this is a design class, we will not be weaving.
