This virtual study group will meet over Zoom to discuss double weave techniques on the rigid heddle loom. Using two (2) heddles and pickup sticks, we will explore how to weave double density, double layer and double width cloth, in several different variations based on our research in books, magazines and digital resources.
We’ll each put on a warp for two (2) heddle weaving then each week, we’ll discuss a few variations of double weave. Between meetings, participants will be expected to spend time weaving a sampler showing each of the structures we’ve explored that week and documenting their work. Results and observations will be shared the following week. Our goal will be to create a digital sample book (with photos, rather than physical samples) that we can share with all participants and with the guild library.
Note that the Study Group Leader’s role is to act as an organizer and meeting chair, not to provide instruction. Participants will research the topic and share their knowledge and resources as they learn together.
